Free At-Home COVID Tests Are Now Available

As we continue to battle future variants, easy access to free rapid COVID tests is even more important. That’s why making free at-home COVID tests more accessible is a priority for me on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee.

In January, I led a letter urging the Biden Administration to ensure easy access to rapid COVID tests in Virginia and our nation. I also pressed CDC Director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky at a Senate HELP Committee hearing, requesting an update on the CDC’s efforts to provide greater access to free COVID tests—particularly in rural America and disadvantaged parts of the country.

I was pleased to hear the Administration is buying one billion tests to give to all Americans for free. All Americans can now visit covidtests.gov to order up to three rounds of free COVID tests—bringing the total up to 16 tests per household. Americans can also now get reimbursed through their private health plan for the cost of up to eight rapid at-home COVID tests a month per covered individual.

People who have difficulty accessing the internet or need additional support placing an order can call 1-800-232-0233—8 am to midnight ET, 7 days per week—to get help in English, Spanish, and more than 150 other languages.

Testing will help us overcome this pandemic. I encourage you to continue doing all you can to protect yourself and your loved ones — including getting vaccinated and boosted.
