Kaine Statement on Senate Democrats’ Vote to Block House-Passed Government Funding Bills

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) released the following statement regarding the Senate’s vote to block the appropriations package that was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives last week:

“It’s Congress’ responsibility to put an end to the chaos and fear caused by roving bands of ICE and Border Patrol agents in our communities that resulted in the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. With this morning’s vote, Senate Democrats sent a clear message. We will not let the House jam us with a package of six bills—passed just days before the government funding deadline—in an effort to ram through a Department of Homeland Security budget that falls way short of protecting Americans from reckless violence at the hands of federal agents. A bipartisan majority of Americans are deeply concerned by the way federal agents are operating and support commonsense reforms to help keep our communities safe, and we stand ready to work together on legislation to make that happen.”
