Sen. Kaine introduces resolution apologizing for discrimination against LGBT federal workers

"During Pride Month, Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine looks to honor LGBT civil servants and service members who serve their country despite — what he labels as — discrimination, mistreatment, and hatred.

Kaine and Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) introduced a Senate resolution that acknowledges and apologizes for the discrimination LGBT individuals have faced in uniformed services, as civil servants, or in the foreign service.

Kaine is a member of the Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees and says the LGBT community has worked tirelessly to make countless contributions to the country and national security, often at a great sacrifice.

'Despite this, our government has subjected them to decades of harassment, invasive investigations, and wrongful termination because of who they are or who they love,' Kaine said. 'Righting these past wrongs is critical to our fight for equality for all LGBT Americans, and I’m glad to be introducing a resolution this Pride Month...'”
