Sen. Kaine stops in Verona as part of statewide tour during Senate recess

Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., traveled around Virginia during the congressional recess, including a stop in Verona at Daikin Applied.

Kaine said Daikin focuses on energy efficiency. One reason for the visit was to talk about some of the incentives that are in place in the tax code to make sure they continue.

“How can we heat and cool in a way where people can bring their cost down?” Kaine said.

Many topics were covered during Kaine’s visits around the commonwealth, including health concerns, like possible cuts to Medicaid and the Virginia Department of Health.

“That will flow down to local health departments and people are nervous about that,” Kaine said.

The senator also discussed how he heard concerns regarding economic uncertainty around tariffs, including how they have been enacted and paused by the Trump administration.

“I have heard that again and again all across the commonwealth. I hope we could get to a place of calm not chaos,” Kaine said. “We got to get back on the right foot.”

With the information that Kaine gathered from his visits, he said he has a lot to do when he returns to the Capitol. One priority is to get his colleagues to support a bill that would end global tariffs. He said tariffs have a place, but the global tariffs are the wrong way to go.

Another priority is fighting “unnecessary” budget cuts, Kaine said, and ensuring any cuts that do happen are strategic judgments and not “willy-nilly.”

“I heard an earful from folks today about avoiding cuts to important programs like Medicaid, and I am going to take that back to D.C. with me,” Kaine said.

Congress resumes operations on Monday.
