WISE COUNTY, Va. (WCYB) — Virginia Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced $700,000 in federal funding to expand water infrastructure in Wise County.
The money comes from the Appalachian Regional Commission supporting the Upper Guest River Sewer Extension Project.
The funding will cover construction of 3,000 square feet of new municipal sewer lines, creating 24 new water service connections.
The sewer lines will serve 120 community members within the Upper Guest River area.
The goal is to improve public waste water access and strengthen rural infrastructure across Southwest Virginia.
"We’re excited about the quality of life for our residence, this will help the resiliency of waste water will help our environment making sure that guest river stays cleaned up so we don’t want any discharge of private systems that impact the environmental of the fish in different species there so it should be a win for everything, said Wise County Public Service Authority Executive Director, Cody McElroy.
We're told right now, they are in the planning phase, with hopes to begin construction on the first phase in the next 2 years.
