Kaine Statement On India’s Election

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern, South and Central Asian Affairs, released the following statement today on India’s election:

“The people of India marked another milestone on their seven decade long democratic journey, completing the largest election in world history. They made their choice clear. On behalf of the United States Senate, I congratulate the Bharatiya Janata Party on its victory and convey my best wishes to Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi as he takes the helm of the world’s largest democracy. The U.S.-India Strategic Partnership enjoys broad bipartisan support and I am certain that the pace and breadth of our relationship will only grow further in the months and years ahead. We have a historic opportunity before us to leverage this partnership to make our citizens safer, healthier, and more prosperous. Let us seize this moment and ensure that the potential of our partnership is fully realized. Jai Hind.”
