Kaine Statement On Senate Passage Of Toxic Substances Control Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tim Kaine released the following statement on Senate passage of the Toxic Substances Control Act:

“Today Congress passed a landmark bipartisan bill to strengthen federal oversight over toxic chemicals. This bill creates new obligations to study chemicals before they are allowed onto the market and makes more information on chemicals available to the public. Most notably, it clears away a bureaucratic obstacle that has prevented regulation of asbestos, a known carcinogen, for the past 25 years. I was proud to cosponsor this bill when it was before the Senate and even prouder that we sent it to the President today without any dissent. Amid all the partisanship in today’s politics, the good faith shown in this process is a model for legislative cooperation, and I hope it will be repeated.”
