Warner, Kaine Announce More Than $12 Million In Federal Funds For Improvements At Two Virginia Airports
WASHINGTON—U.S. Sens. Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine (both D-VA) announced today that Virginia Tech Montgomery Executive Airport in Blacksburg and Charlottesville Albemarle Airport in Charlottesville will receive more than $12 million in funds from the Department of Transportation (DOT)’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to extend and rehabilitate existing runways and improve the safety of their facilities.
“Virginia airports face challenges in maintaining critical infrastructure while delivering the quality services their users and passengers have come to expect,” said Sen. Warner. “This funding will help these airports continue to prioritize these demands while providing flyers modern facilities with added safety for their travel.”
Projects and amounts are listed below:
- Virginia Tech/Montgomery Executive Airport - $4,022,172. This project will fund a 1,870 foot runway extension to allow Runway 12/30 to meet the operational needs of the airport.
- Charlottesville/Albemarle Airport - $7,996,770. This project will fund pavement milling and overlay to rehabilitate 6,800 feet of Runway 3/21 to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and to minimize foreign object debris.
Earlier this month, Sens. Warner and Kaine also announced nearly $2 million in federal funding to airports in Dinwiddie, Warren, and Culpeper.
